The HMCS Oriole
I was over to Vancouver for a meeting and a quick visit with my Mom and Ted. The day was long but the trip back was wonderful because I got to see a very majestic ketch under sail. As the ferry approached Active Pass heading to Swartz Bay, the Second officer announced that the H.M.C.S. Oriole was off our Starboard beam so I grabbed the camera to grab a pic or two. I managed to snap this pic as the crew was dousing the jib.
I love these particular ships as they remind me of what sailing is all about. They hold an air of mystery and intrigue that a modern sailboat cannot.
Awesome to see such a vessel underway. I have met former crew and all of them consistently rave about this ship and her power under sail. One day I am going to sail with a vessel as fine as this.
