Obama is the 44th President of The USA
I am Canadian. I really don’t care a whole lot about America (sorry guys, I watch South Park so I know how y’all really feel about us up here) but I have to say I am really impressed with Barack Obama. I hope tomorrow’s inauguration goes well for him.
I saw this set if pictures of the inaugural preparations and I can see that he should get quite a heroes welcome to office. My regular feelings regarding America are simple. I don’t believe in what you believe in, so I choose to just not go there. I don’t make day trips to Seattle, or weekend trips down the west coast and that is a bit sad for me, but I just don’t trust any of you. I hope Obama can bring some change in America as you all sorely need it in my opinion and also because I really do want to trust you. I want us to be friends. Good luck America, and I hope I can see you soon.
“Change Canada can believe in, eh?!”

Seriously? You think South Park constitutes the general consensus? I’d have to disagree with you on that one. South Park is hilarious, but horribly delusional. But then, I think it’s meant to be.
And also, you shouldn’t listen to the media and from that have a general idea of what the people “believe” in. I mean- we’re a pretty diverse group. Look at my family, for example. In a given dinner together, we’ll be in complete opposite sides of an argument. And yet, at the end of the day we don’t all hate each other. I think that’s pretty awesome.
We as a nation have been on the directly wrong path these last years. I would have to say that’s not because of our “beliefs” but rather our fears outweighing our better sensibilities. And that by no means excuses it, and I greatly fear that something else will happen that will make the general population start running around again like headless chickens. We’re far better when we’re not buying duct tape by the caseload.
At any rate, don’t distrust a whole nation because of a small number of idiots. We’re a whole lot more like you crazy Canadians than you think. Trust me, I would know. ;) And if you ever want to go to Seattle, you’re welcome to come along with me. I will help with the language translations. ;)

Oh yeah, and the site looks pretty awesome. I should commission you to give my site a new look. I’m horribly lazy.

Thanks for the post, Christine. :) You are right, my South Park comment was totally tongue-in-cheek. :)
As for American beliefs, I did travel for almost a year pre-bush era throughout the states and touched a great many areas of the country.
On more than one occasion I attended churches of various faiths whilst down there as well as worked a great many jobs of all kinds alongside dozens different kinds of people.
Belief maybe is a strong word, although I really believe that the “American Mindset” has changed as a result of fear. And it is reflected not in the news of the day, but rather in the systematic change of processes over the course of years. I remember being able to visit my neighbors to the south without an official passport…
You are right that I shouldn’t distrust a whole nation based on some of the idiots contained therein…
I am at this point a believer in Obama being the person to make change happen. I saw the slogans, I watched the campaign (a bit) and I really do hope America opens it’s doors again, cause I know there are some great moorings along the coast of Texas, Louisiana, Florida etc that I want to visit…
